Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.
Role Purpose Member of the Forming design team responsible for the detailed design of Display Technologies Fusion Draw Process equipment, ranging from initial concept stage to final design approval and implementation including repairs, expansions fabrication, check-out at vendors, technology improvements of existing platforms, and follow-up to ensure that all quality, cost and safety requirements are met. Project support for the key initiatives for the division. Focus will be on implementation of robust, cost-effective process machine systems in Corning’s manufacturing plants Supporting equipment rebuilds by creating and tracking scope of work documents, bills of material, and equipment orders. Supporting equipment checkouts at suppliers and equipment installation in the plants. Decision making and technical representation for the FDM group at Design Reviews, Potential Problem Analysis reviews, technical summits, as well as the everyday design issues common within the department. Identify and evaluate multiple options for solving complex technical issues and thoroughly supporting his/her technical solution. Key Responsibilities Complex process equipment design and drawing detailing Engineering calculations and reports Providing daily technical guidance to peers FEA modeling of structural/thermal/fluids problems Evaluating the viability of incoming design changes Actively participating in design reviews Reporting to supervision of trends, decisions, and test results Interacting with domestic and international operation sites and our Science and Technology Division Alignment to department drawing and file standards. Travel: approximately 30% international, 10% domestic Required Education and Experience BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field, MS preferred 3+ years of experience in equipment design role or equivalent educational experience (internship, co-op, etc.) Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills Demonstrated track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others Solid experience with 3D CAD software Ability to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision Desired Skills Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing proficiency 2D CAD proficiency, AutoCAD experience preferred Project leadership Interacting with plant operators, contract vendors and leading the installation of proposed mechanical systems Manufacturing plant experience Materials science experience Familiarity with metal and ceramic fabrication processes Strong verbal and written communication skills

The range for this position is $78,415.00 - $107,821.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
