Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer uses engineering techniques to design, maintain, or improve new or existing products and/or components for engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility.

ResponsibilitiesAnalyze engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts.Sketch rough layouts and compute angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.Plan, coordinate, and check engineering changes prior to supervisory signature release to production.Investigate and troubleshoot product design related problems and opportunities, documenting findings and performing corrective/improvement changes.Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, agency standards, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.Develop agency certification submittals and coordinate available testing with internal and external laboratories.Develop evaluation test plans and coordinate with engineering designers and lab test engineers on test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data, and means for achieving desired test results.Write detailed engineering reports with analysis and summary of findings that will be shared with other departments and archived for historical reference.Investigate pertinent factors such as interchangeability, service requirements, efficiency, and agency requirements.Essential SkillsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field3 years of experience in design and manufacture of productsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and proceduresAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferenceStrong reasoning and analytical skillsExperience in appliance design preferredExperience in engineering/manufacturing change processesExperience working with governing certification standards and agencies preferredExperience in manufacturing processes engineering and engineering computer systems including SolidWorks modeling softwareOccasional travel requiredExcellent communication skills, written and verbal, with attention to detail and accuracyProficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office SuiteDemonstrated ability to work well with others in a matrix team environmentKnowledge of concepts, techniques and tools that promote effective analysisKnowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product designKnowledge of existing and advanced methodologies, processes, tools and techniques of product developmentKnowledge of effective project management strategies and tacticsKnowledge of cost improvement projectsAdditional Skills & QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldKnowledge of gas combustion principlesKnowledge of heat pump design and heat exchanger optimizationKnowledge of analysis & system development tools (e.g. ANSYS/Fluent, ANSYS/Mechanical, MATLAB, LabView, Pro/e, EnergyPlus, GT-SUITE)Work Environment

The work environment includes using technologies and equipment related to engineering design and manufacturing processes. The position may require occasional travel. The dress code is business casual.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
