Mechanical Design Engineer Intern
SummaryPosted: Oct 28, 2024Weekly Hours: 40 Role Number:200574902The people here at Apple don’t just build products — they create the kind of wonder that’s revolutionized entire industries. It’s the diversity of those people and their ideas that encourages the innovation that runs through everything we do, from amazing technology to industry-leading environmental efforts. Join Apple, and help us leave the world better than we found it. Are you up for the challenge? Apple’s Hardware Test Engineering group is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern with prior internship/educational experience, proficiency and curiosity about mechanical design, strong communication and technical leadership skills. You will brainstorm, design, develop and characterize metrology equipment used to calibrate and test Apple’s new groundbreaking technology and products. Your design work could range from lab scale systems-- understanding and characterizing tool capability at sub-micron mechanical tolerances, to developing automated mass-production measurement tools, where balancing the engineering tradeoffs between precision, costs, lead-time and efficiency is needed. With excellent diversity of the problem space, you will rely on your engineering background to design the efficient solution for the problem at hand, leaning on the fundamentals of materials science, structural and thermal analysis, machinery design, automation and manufacturing processes. You will work collaboratively with a creative and diverse team of authority engineers from all disciplines including instrumentation, core technology, product design and operations teams developing innovative measurement systems for Apple. DescriptionDescription- Automated measurement system development and optimization from ideation to deployment. - Detailed mechanical design of manual and automated measurement and calibration systems (including component and materials selection, 3D/2D CAD, mechanism design, FEA) - Collaboration with vendors to develop measurement systems and improve manufacturing and metrology capabilities and processes - Management of vendor prototyping schedule and manufacturing plan - Support new product failure analysis and continuous improvements in product manufacturability and performance, giving to the production of the highest quality products available - Support new vendor development to expand Apple’s vendor base with regards to capability, capacity, and geographical influence - Requires up to 50% China domestic and international travel to support equipment design, deployment, and validation Minimum QualificationsMinimum QualificationsYou have an engineering background (Mechanical / Aerospace / Mechatronics)You’re motivated with the dream and ability to become an integral part of Apple’s hardworking, highly creative and dynamic engineering teamYou have excellent communication and social skillsYou know 3D CAD modeling systems and workflowYou can apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) principles and drafting standardsYou love stress-strain relationships, static mechanics (determinate and indeterminate systems)You get excited about kinematics and mechanism designKey QualificationsKey QualificationsPreferred QualificationsPreferred QualificationsHigh volume electronics manufacturing equipment design, including structures, sheet metal, plastics, fixture/mechanism design, robotics, probe design, plating materials and thermal design is a plusUG NX experience preferredFEA (stress analysis) highly desirable, ANSYS preferredPlastic part design, molded part design highly desirableMetal and plastic materials science, tribology and wear principles highly desirableProject and product management experience strongly preferredMandarin written and verbal language a plusEducation & ExperienceEducation & ExperienceAdditional RequirementsAdditional RequirementsMore
