Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. **Scope of Position** Corning Incorporated is excited to offer a unique internship opportunity in our New Product Development for Hardware Design group. We are seeking eager Mechanical Engineering students who are keen to translate their academic knowledge into practical application. This position provides an enriching environment for learning and professional growth in a leading technology company. **Program Perks:** + Competitive salaries + Assistance with housing and travel + Meaningful project and final project presentation **Intern Activities:** + Social and networking opportunities + Weekly tech talks + Community involvement **Day to Day Responsibilities** + Participating in the design and development process of new hardware products. + Gaining hands-on experience with CAD software to create models and drawings of new product designs. + Being involved in various stages of the product development cycle, including conceptualization, design, prototyping, and testing. + Collaborating with the engineering team to solve design challenges and contribute to the improvement of existing products. + Conducting research to support the development of innovative product features. + Assisting in the preparation of technical reports and product presentations. + Learning about adherence to required specifications and regulatory standards in product design. + Providing support for other tasks and projects as needed. **Requirements** + Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. + Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles. + Familiarity with CAD software. + Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively. + A proactive approach and eagerness to learn new skills + Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later + Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity. + Be willing to work at the posted job location **This position does not support immigration sponsorship.** ​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.
