Mechanical Designer
Job Title: Mechanical DesignerJob Description We are seeking a skilled and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our team. This role involves creating practical and sophisticated mechanical and electromechanical concepts and designs for components, assemblies, tools, and products of varying complexity. The Mechanical Designer will work closely with engineering, vendors, manufacturing, quality, and customers to ensure design specifications are met and will provide expert technical consultation. This position requires the application of Computer Aided Design (Creo 7) methodologies, theories, and techniques. Responsibilities + Create innovative and practical mechanical and electromechanical designs for components, assemblies, tools, and products. + Collaborate with engineering, vendors, manufacturing, quality, and customers on design specifications. + Ensure designs are free of layout process defects and assist engineers with defining design standards and configurations. + Apply Computer Aided Design (Creo 7) methodologies, theories, and techniques. + Review various completed engineering documents to ensure compliance with engineering and military standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensions. + Provide expert technical consultation to the division and customer community. + Develop innovative concepts that satisfy functional and operational requirements for existing product lines and new product development programs. + Prepare moderately complex design layouts, schematics, or sketches of components or portions of functional systems within cost and producibility constraints. + Prepare drawing packages to military or equivalent standards. + Check completed layouts, drawings, test plans, test reports, procedures, and change history documentation for clarity, completeness, and conformance to engineering, military, and industrial standards, procedures, specifications, and codes. + Evaluate completed drawings, specifications, and procedures for producibility and viability of design, appropriateness of tolerances, fits, finishes, materials, and validate integration of equipment. + Perform and document technical calculations such as design evaluations, tolerance studies, mass and section properties, static and dynamic loading. + Identify assembly interference, design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design. + Interface with various internal customers to solve moderately complex technical problems. + May interface with external customers to solve moderately complex technical problems. Essential Skills + Minimum of an associate degree in CAD Technology, Drafting and Design. + Minimum of 3+ years using CAD modeling tools to create complex solid models with CREO. + Minimum of 3+ years of concept and preliminary design experience. + Experience in large structures and large assembly design and modeling, preferably in Military / DOD space. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Proficiency in Pro-E, Creo, parametric design, and mechanical design. + Experience with sheet metal and GD&T. + Team player with strong communication skills (verbal and written). Work Environment The Mechanical Designer will work with other designers, drafters, and engineers in an office setting.
