Job Description
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for completing piping design and drafting duties related to all areas of the plant and associated engineering disciplines. This individual works independently on job assignments, taking basic project information and producing finished engineering drawings suitable for bidding and construction. Documents produced include engineering flow diagrams, civil drawings, detailed equipment arrangements, installation details, piping plans, piping isometrics, electrical drawings, miscellaneous construction, and as-built drawings. The design/drafter may be responsible for making project design decisions.
ResponsibilitiesCivil and Mechanical system design decision makingApplying sound project design engineering principlesEnsure systems and equipment are designed and installed in accordance with regulatory standardsAssist with project reviews and system designReview field installations to ensure compliance with designVerification and completion of as-built drawingsDevelopment of construction drawingsWork directly with Project Engineers, Project Planners, and Construction Field Coordinators to define project implementation requirementsDevelop equipment and material take-off and specificationsSurveying and field verification as required to support project designDevelop site plans, equipment layouts, piping plans, and isometricsUpdating as-built drawingsAssist Project Construction Coordinator with construction activities as neededWork with Project Planner to establish resourcesEssential SkillsExcellent AutoCAD operating skills3D Design skills with Autodesk InventorKnowledge of surveying and field verification techniquesUnderstanding of mechanical and civil design practices and regulationsIn-depth knowledge of design codes, standards, and regulations (OSHA, ADA, ASME, etc.)Previous manufacturing experience with process-related equipment (pumps, piping, heat exchangers, etc.)Capable of working independentlyAdditional Skills & QualificationsOptional: Experience with Leica 3D Point Cloud Scanner and Leica Register 360 Software4 to 5 years of experience in piping layout design within a manufacturing settingAssociate degree in Drafting/Design Technology or equivalentIf no degree, 10+ years of experience in piping designGood communication skillsCapable of making decisions independentlyStrong personal initiativeBasic civil and mechanical engineering knowledgeAbility to work well in a team environmentAbility to work in a culture that values diversity in a self-directed team environmentWork Environment
This position requires working onsite at least 4 days a week. Expect to work around 45 hours a week. This position is in a manufacturing environment that requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs periodically, lift and carry 40 lbs, and access all areas of the plant.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00
