Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our team. The ideal candidate will create and modify detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineering. This role involves contributing to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operations or improve product quality. The candidate will check drawing plots for correctness and conformance to standards, working closely with engineers on model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation. The position requires extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with advanced coordination and control. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and modify detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software.Contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operations or improve product quality.Check drawing plots versus project input for correctness and conformance to standards.Work with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.Manage system files, including maintenance, backup, and storage.Solve complex problems requiring the application of differing techniques.Design major segments of complex subsystems.Create 3-D models of parts and assemblies to develop subsystem layouts and prepare production drawings.Apply knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.Participate in design reviews.Work closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure all design aspects are understood.Serve as liaison with operations during parts fabrication to resolve design issues and update drawings.Perform tolerance analysis on mating parts to ensure proper fit.Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to designs.Technically direct and check drawings of lower-level drafters.Provide CAD software expertise for specific problem-solving on projects.Maintain availability for daily work, including evenings and weekends when necessary to meet goals and deadlines.Essential SkillsAdvanced skills in 3D solid modeling/drafting using SolidWorks software.Advanced skills in 2D drafting using AutoCAD software.Advanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.Advanced knowledge of machining operations and shop practices.8+ years of experience with GD&T.8+ years of experience in designing/drafting.8+ years of experience with SolidWorks.8+ years of experience with Altium.8+ years of experience in board design.Experience with DOD or DOE projects.Additional Skills & QualificationsISO and/or AS9100 (preferred).Lean Manufacturing 6 sigma/kaizen (preferred).Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a related field and 10-15 years of directly related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Work Environment
This position is onsite, supporting DOD and DOE projects and programs. The candidate will work in a collaborative environment with engineers and manufacturing personnel, ensuring all aspects of the design are understood and implemented correctly. The role requires availability for daily work, including evenings and weekends when necessary to meet goals and deadlines.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $62.50/hr.
