Mechanical Engineer 2 (NSSS Component Analysis)
POSITION SUMMARY : The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position will learn how to and will perform design activities and stress analyses to support manufacture of pressure vessels , related components and structures , and supports in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code ( BPVC ) Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, by applying sound engineering structural mechanics fundamentals, including familiarity with industry standard analysis software ( e.g. Mathcad, ANSYS). + Prepa re and review engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS . + Maintain and revise computer-aided design (CAD) models using Siemens NX and related engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards and best practices. + Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. + Support development and implementation of effective processes for system D esign S pecifications. + Utilize the results from BPVC Section III evaluations to optimize component design. + Collaborate with peers in different organizations and engage in the engineering change control process to ensure design decisions are well-communicated and well-understood. + Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES: + Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. A registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is prefer red. + Experience: A minimum of 2 years of full-time engineering experience is required. A MS or PhD in an Engineering discipline may be considered in lieu of full-time experience. Additional required and preferred experience is listed below: + Use of software: CAD (e.g., NX, SolidWorks), ANSYS Mechanical, normal office software (e.g., Microsoft Office products) is strongly preferred. + Analysis of components for pressure and mechanical/thermal loadings or the ab i l ity to demonstrate knowledge and experience with engineering design is strongly preferred . + Computer programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab ) is strongly preferred . + Must have strong technical writing skills and possess good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. + Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required. + Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810. Pay and Benefits: The target pay range for this position is $87,107 - $105,129 annually. The full pay range is $78,096 - $122,149.
