The Manufacturing Excellence (ME) Engineer is an entry-level position designed to introduce new employees with technical degrees to the world of paperboard manufacturing. Previous experience in paperboard manufacturing is not required—you will be trained on everything you need to know! The ME Engineer will work in a collaborative, team environment focused on deliberate improvement projects in the areas of cost reduction, quality, reliability, and productivity. Working with the ME Manager and Reliability Manager, ~60% of the ME Engineer’s time will be supporting an operating department (Paper, Fiber, Power, etc) and delivering results on projects aligned with the department’s improvement plan.
The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer will be a key resource for the site-wide work systems transformation initiative. Using the latest digital tools, ~20% of the time the ME Engineer will engage frontline workers to understand department workflows and create innovative solutions to improve communication and problem-solving.
While working on improvement projects, the ME Engineer will also spend ~20% of the time on personal growth and development. Technical training on the paper manufacturing process, reliability fundamentals, lean manufacturing, and advanced analytics using dataParc, minitab, and others will be offered. Leadership development courses provide a foundation for future advancement within the company as a Supervisor or Team Leader.
Manufacturing Excellence Work Processes
· Engage in safety leadership efforts and encourage/support safe work practices
· Drive mill initiatives in the department by engaging employees in improvement activities and work system transformation
· Coordinate trials and process experiments to improve the operation
· Implement 5S standards in department
· Analyze downtime to identify chronic issues and problems that need to be solved
· Identify opportunities to reduce process variability that lead to waste
· Support project teams with data analysis, advanced analytics, problem solving and presentation of results
· Graphic Packaging Green Belt certification
· RCFA reliability training
· Graphic Packaging Leadership Development Program
