About the role The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development and testing of all aspects of mechanical components, systems and equipment including new and existing products. Working under immediate supervision the incumbent has knowledge and experience working with mechanical design concepts, manufacturing techniques and materials. Responsibilities Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs. Applies principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials. Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by: studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators. Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends Provides engineering information to stakeholders by answering questions and requests. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with corporate, industry and government regulations Maintains system and product data base by writing computer programs and entering data Completes projects by training and guiding technicians Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies Additional duties as assigned Qualifications Possesses knowledge of drafting terminology and symbols in mechanical engineering. Solution oriented and thinks creatively to design and develop mechanical components, systems, and equipment Able to work effectively both in a team environment and independently. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Education & Experience Experience with mechanical design concepts and the manufacturing of consumer products, utilizing high volume automated manufacturing processes as well as manual assembly Experience with design, prototyping, and evaluation of material selection Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical design.
