Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to design supporting structures and auxiliary equipment for new shop machinery. This role does not involve designing industrial machinery, as all new machinery is purchased. Key responsibilities include designing mezzanines, foundations, support columns, and beams, as well as specifying and installing support equipment such as bridge cranes and ductwork. The candidate will primarily use AutoCAD 2D for design work and will support maintenance engineering and shutdown projects. This is a hands-on role that involves leading projects from design to installation, considering industrial ventilation principles, and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
ResponsibilitiesDesign supporting structures and auxiliary equipment for new shop machinery.Specify and install support equipment such as bridge cranes and ductwork.Utilize AutoCAD 2D for design work.Support maintenance engineering and shutdown projects.Lead projects from design to installation, including specifying, evaluating, and installing new equipment.Troubleshoot mechanical issues with new equipment (e.g., hydraulic leaks, damaged hardware).Consider industrial ventilation principles when managing machine install projects.Essential SkillsAutoCAD 2D experience is a must.Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic machinery or instruct technicians on how to.Experience designing structural supports for heavy machinery (e.g., mezzanines, machine supports).10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues on industrial equipment.Associates degree in engineering is required.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues on equipment.Understanding of industrial ventilation principles.Work Environment
Design work will be performed in a comfortable, air-conditioned office behind a desk. However, when installing new equipment or specifying for new equipment, the candidate will regularly work on the shop floor. The manufacturing floor is a castings environment, which can be hot and dirty, so candidates should be aware of the work conditions.
