Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for creating and evaluating ideas on project decks and leading the execution of those projects.Drive VCP ideation through BOM cost analysis, sourcing spend data, value analysis, should cost analysis, and brainstorming sessions with cross functional teams.Perform teardowns of products to benchmark the cost and design, perform cost to function analysis, and support Disruptive Cost Workouts (DCW) focused on design improvements and cost reduction efforts.Own and drive teardown workshops: involve cross functional teams for ideation sessions - idea funnel generation.Data analysis – cost / BOM / technical attributes / design elements to identify areas of standardization and optimization.Develop part category specific database with technical attributes for analysis and to optimize and create standard libraries (for eg: Injection molding, Cables, etc.)Design to cost, Design for Manufacturing and Design to Value mindset.Experience in program management – ownership of outcomes.Communicate, collaborate, and engage with global cross functional teams and hardware design teams optimizing components and processes.Business case: develop ROI models by considering true cost of change.Work with the hardware platform teams in developing global solutions.Responsible for product life cycle which includes prompt attention to supply chain issues and obsolescence for both production and service operations.Help deliver a culture of Design to Value and Cost reduction.Execution of ideas: project plan, develop design solution, prototyping, verification and validation, ECR implementation.Define standard processes and develop playbooks to engrain processes into functional teams.Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines.Minimum 5 years of Relevant Engineering experience in Product Design and Development.Experience in design of general mechanical part categories such as Fabrication, Plastics, Machining, Cabling, etc.Experience in the localization and cost reduction is preferred.Ability to design, execute, analyze, experiment.Experience with mechanical 3D CAD tools, preferably PTC Creo and WindchillUnderstanding of Cross Functional perspectives and ability to influence and deliver right solutions.Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Desired CharacteristicsMaster's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.Experience in localization and cost reduction programs is preferred.Effective understanding and working knowledge of metals, plastics, and composite materials.Experienced in test setup, data collection, and design of experiments for thermal-mechanical testing.Strong software skills with some experience in ANSYS FEA and/or other analysis packages such as COMSOL.Experience with numerical analysis tools and optimization methods.Hands on hardware experience on mechanical systems and componentsDemonstrated supplier and manufacturing interface skills.Demonstrated technical leadership capability in integration and collaborative activities.Established project management skills.Self-starter, energizing, results oriented professional.Enthusiasm to instill a design to Value and cost savings culture in the business.
