Mechanical Engineer

Description:

Troubleshoot and solve problems on fleet of LRVs by analyzing, designing, and prototyping possible solutions and then implementing solutions that pass prototype tests. Analyze design flaws and issues occurring on OEM equipment in order to redesign and implement solutions. Generate 2D drawings & 3D models of existing equipment layouts and cable / harness routings for engineering and production use.Perform tolerance stack up analysis and kinematics analysis. Work with engineering, quality, manufacturing, suppliers and customer to clarify issues, get answers and provide direction or comments.Rely on experience and judgment to achieve the goal of staying on time in the production schedule.Review existing technical documents for accuracy against actual hardware.Design vehicle layouts, calculate load conditions, weight balance and turn radii, analyze mechanical strength and calculate clearance envelopes for contract proposals. Do feasibility study and draft drawings while investigating the vehicle structures, parts and components.Design, recommend, and implement fleet wide equipment changes while complying with ASTM and NFPA codes and standards. Redesign various LRV components to be economically manufactured locally for low quantities. Write, edit, and release documents and procedures to document train modifications. Supervise repairs and/or modifications on various LRVs and LRV component installations. Review technical documents and drawings for compliance against Technical Specification requirements and complete Requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM).Control hardware/ software configuration when drawings or software are changed or updated.Create test procedures and perform compliance tests of LRVs or on-board systems of LRVs to validate if LRVs and components and/or equipment is within required parameters and compliance on the Technical Specification requirements. Review and assist in the design, documentations and manuals etc. of LRVs including Car body, System application and Truck.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical or related field required; Master's degree preferred.5 years of experience working as Mechanical Engineer required; experience working in the railcar/automotive/aerospace industry strongly preferred. 5 years of preparing design stages of a body component, including research, development, and manufacture from installation to final commissioning.5 years of experience using computer-assisted design (AutoCAD) software.5 years of supporting the design engineering team or related with creating 3D Computer Aided Design for vehicle integration.
