Job Description

AECOM has a position available for a mid-career Mechanical Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices in multiple locations across the United States through our Freedom to Grow program.

Our team provides a wide range of mechanical engineering services across markets sectors including oil and gas – upstream, midstream and downstream refining, industrial processes (chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage), mining/bulk material handling and future and renewable fuels (such as hydrogen, renewable natural gas, biogas, carbon capture).

The successful candidate is expected to be a detail oriented, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. It is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a project technical leadership role.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Development of mechanical equipment and piping material specificationsProduce calculations to inform design such as hydraulic modeling, pipe stress calculations, tank and pump sizingCoordination with mechanical design team to direct completion of engineering drawings.Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.Attend client meetings and/or site field visitsWorks under limited supervision.Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgetingWorking with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing workload forecasts, design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activitiesCreating, updating, and implementing group specific standardsPrepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractorsPreparation of project specification and contract documentsAbility to check and verify work prepared by peer/groupApplies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US mechanical and industrial infrastructureEnsure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university4 years of relevant experience in industrial facility mechanical engineering

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

6+ years of experience preferredPE License or EITDemonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pneumatic conveying, dewatering)Familiarity with diverse metallurgyDemonstrated experience with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applicationsExperience with HVAC and/or other similar building systemExperience with Hydrogen production facilities, thermal power generationExperience executing work in 3D model environmentsExperience with Smart P&ID’sExperience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)Experience with bulk material handlingStrong knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis2+ yrs experience as project technical mechanical leadStrong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design developmentKnowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectationsDemonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teamsComprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME)
