Role Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the Manufacturing Supply Operations organization of Kodak’s Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division.
The principal charter of this group is to provide engineering support to on-going manufacturing and product improvement in the Kodak Dayton Ohio facility. The Mechanical Engineer will focus on manufacturing and continuous improvement for the Kodak Prosper and ULTRASTREAM products. This engineer will be responsible for identifying, validating and implementing solutions to increase customer satisfaction by supporting and improving operational processes. Work will include manufacturing support, process improvement, failure analysis, and laboratory testing of existing and prototype parts and software. Close interaction with other engineering disciplines is required due to the complex printing system consisting of fluid mechanics, electronics, software and materials. The Mechanical Engineer will coordinate activities involving designers, manufacturing engineers and technicians as necessary. The engineer will have direct contact and develop vital working relationships with current customers, field service engineers, R&D engineers and Manufacturing engineering and operations. The engineer will provide advanced support to Service Engineering for customer issues that are escalated. Both domestic and international travel to customer sites is expected and will typically be between 5% and 10%.
Scope of work requires the following:
• Support daily production needs of manufacturing work cells
• Develop manufacturing processes and implement improvements
• Create engineering change orders for process changes or for new introductions of parts, products or processes
• Evaluate parts and subsystems and develop solutions to improve reliability and performance
• Measure and evaluate system-level performance to identify critical part and subsystem interactions
• Coordinate activities with technicians and other team members to complete tasks
• Perform failure analysis and identify key areas for continuous improvement in order to increase customer satisfaction
• Interface with the multi-functional teams including production, sustaining engineering, field service and R&D to address on-going field performance problems
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Technology, etc. with at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
• (Desired) – Manufacturing experience, continuous inkjet knowledge, software knowledge, failure analysis knowledge, reliability engineering
• Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and solve complex problems on the manufacturing floor
• Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical systems
• Manufacturing system characterization, integration, testing, and optimization skills
• Knowledge of the following technical areas or topics: transducers, instrumentation, data acquisition, reliability, statistics, testing, design of experiments and failure analysis skills.
• Experience with computer software tools for the engineering environment, i.e. Microsoft applications Excel/Word PC applications
• Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment and across functional boundaries
• Quality conscious with an attention to detail and ability to follow through
• Strong oral and written communication skills including project planning, technical presentations and direct customer communication.
• Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
