Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer (automotive) will ensure the quality and customer satisfaction of Powertrain Engineering systems through superior data analysis, troubleshooting with root cause investigation, and support. This role involves providing onsite professional service to support a fleet of prototype heavy-duty trucks, focusing on powertrain electronic control and diagnosis. The individual will be responsible for systems on several validation vehicles, diagnosing powertrain system faults using extracted data, and participating in weekly meetings with colleagues.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare, troubleshoot, and support reliability and engineering vehicles specific to electrical engineering related items.Diagnose vehicle powertrain issues pertaining to performance and fault codes.Communicate issues and test results within Daimler Trucks Powertrain Engineering from Reliability Growth and Engineering vehicles through data reduction and fault code root cause analysis.Develop post-processing tools to analyze data more efficiently.Schedule time according to established job priorities.Conduct vehicle experiments to determine hardware, software, and calibration parameter specifications that best meet the technical performance requirements of the project.Complete project work, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.Write comprehensive reports on the status of vehicles that have completed their test cycles, and use tools to automate report writing processes.Skills & QualificationsBS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, or similar1-2+ years of experience is required - internship, automotive club or military experience (automotive or equipment fleet) acceptableHands-on automotive experience or related hobbies (e.g., auto shop, tinkering, 3D printing)Mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle systemsExperience with data logging, vehicle development, and vehicle testing is ideal - Formula SAE or Baja SAE academic program would likely sufficeKnowledge of vehicle systems, CAN/BUS, report writing, scripting, mechanical engineering, Python, and documentationProgramming/coding experience with Matlab, Python, C, C++, C#, or Java is helpful (don't need all of them)Work Environment
The work environment is a mix of computer-related tasks like tedious report writing and data review, with hands-on work with the vehicles in the shop.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $35.00
