Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing custom automated equipment mainly for the packaging industry, as well as supporting batch processing equipment, general manufacturing equipment, and robotic equipment. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with customers and various team members. You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems for industrial automation projects, providing solutions that meet client-specific needs. While most customers are local, there may be occasional overnight travel up to 5%. As part of a small but growing team, this role offers the opportunity to experience being part of a growing company, with potential career progression into Project Management or Applications Engineering roles.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and detail custom machine systems.Design and develop end-of-arm tooling for robotic systems.Specify proper sensors, actuators, and motors as part of the mechanical design.Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and scope.Calculate force requirements as well as loads and demands for servos and motors.Calculate hydraulic and pneumatic force requirements.Design hydraulic and pneumatic systems.Conduct testing and commissioning of systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.Provide technical support during installation, startup, and ongoing operation.Provide documentation including detail drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) for completed projects.Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve mechanical systems.Essential SkillsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.Minimum of 2 years of experience designing automated equipment.Proficiency in Inventor.Experience with Engineer-to-Order (ETO) processes.Experience in project management and application engineering.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in Applications Engineering or Project Management.Tool and die background.Work Environment
The team just moved to a new location in Niles, MI due to outgrowing their previous building. The team consists of 8 people and plans to grow in engineering in 2025 and 2026. The typical workweek is 45 hours. The business has been growing rapidly since 2020. The role offers 10 days of PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months of employment. The role reports to the owner and allows for some flexibility in pay depending on the candidate's experience.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.66 - $38.46/hr.
