Mechanical Engineer – San Luis Obispo, CA
Compensation: $40-$70/hour (Based on Experience)
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at PDS Tech Commercial. This role presents a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team of experts in San Luis Obispo, CA, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge airframe designs and aerospace technologies.
Role Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate with a talented team to design, test, and validate advanced aircraft systems. Your contributions will be integral to the development of new airframe designs, manufacturing processes, and systems that push the boundaries of aerospace engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and refine mechanical designs in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Create and modify 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and installation plans using SolidWorks (or similar software).
Conduct structural and thermal analyses to ensure the integrity of systems and structures.
Support system requirements, trade studies, and component testing planning.
Assist in the creation of work orders, build guides, and travelers.
Participate in system checkout procedures and provide hands-on support during installation.
Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure design integration and maintain high-quality standards.
Contribute to ground and flight test support and ensure compliance with design specifications.
Utilize PDM systems and uphold an organized, gated design process.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
2-5 years of mechanical design experience in aerospace or a similar industry.
Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM (or similar tools).
Strong understanding of structural and thermal analysis principles.
Expertise in GD&T and the creation of detailed technical drawings.
Willingness to relocate to San Luis Obispo, CA.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with military standards for aircraft mechanical design.
Knowledge of risk management practices and engineering change requests/orders (ECR/Os).
Hands-on experience working in machine shops and with prototype designs.
Basic understanding of dynamics, production processes, electronics, and systems engineering.
Experience with supplier management, including SOWs, RFPs, and vendor coordination.

Pay Details: $40.00 to $70.00 per hour
