Mechanical Engineer
Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description We are seeking a Marine/Mechanical Engineer to support a critical program for NOAA and its Fleet Efforts. In this role, you will assist engineers and program managers with calculations, designs, and studies of piping, pump, fire, and water systems. You will perform preliminary ship design studies, piping calculations for various systems, develop requirements, and conduct cost estimations, as well as engineering calculations, analysis, and validations. Responsibilities + Perform preliminary ship design studies + Conduct piping calculations for pump, fire, water, and sewage systems + Develop requirements and cost estimates + Perform engineering calculations, analysis, and validations Essential Skills + 6 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry and mechanical discipline + Bachelor's Degree in a related field + Ability to perform system design calculations and verifications + Experience supporting ship concept design development and performing feasibility studies + Proficiency in reviewing and modifying drawings + Experience with ShipConstructor, Pipeflow, Rhino, Solidworks, or other ship design software Additional Skills & Qualifications + Professional Engineer (PE) in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering + Shipboard operating experience with research ships + Ability to perform and evaluate piping system design and installation + Experience with cost estimating Work Environment This position offers a hybrid environment with 2-3 days onsite and occasional travel. The office is located in Silver Spring, very close to a Metro stop, providing a dynamic team environment with opportunities to expand beyond traditional roles. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $57.69/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
