Job Summary:
RPO is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineer with a focus on Automation to join our continuous Improvement team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating automated systems and processes throughout our precision optics manufacturing environment. This role combines mechanical engineering expertise with automation technologies to optimize production processes, increase efficiency, and improve quality. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop automation solutions that streamline operations and enhance the precision of optical systems. You Will:
+ Design and implement automated mechanical systems, including robotic arms, conveyor systems, automated assembly lines, and inspection systems tailored for precision optics manufacturing.
+ Use CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) to design automation components and integrate them with existing optical systems. Create detailed models and assembly drawings for automation equipment.
+ Collaborate with automation engineers, electrical engineers, and software developers to integrate mechanical systems with control systems and robotics for fully automated production lines.
+ Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, improve production speed, reduce human error, and ensure high-quality standards. Conduct time studies and process analysis to assess automation requirements.
+ Provide technical support for the manufacturing team during the installation and commissioning of automated systems. Troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical or integration issues.
+ Lead the testing and validation of new automation systems and processes to ensure they meet performance, quality, and safety standards.
+ Evaluate and recommend materials for automated systems, ensuring compatibility with precision optical components and optimizing system performance.
+ Work closely with optical engineers, electrical engineers, and production teams to ensure that automation solutions are aligned with overall production goals and product specifications.
+ Maintain accurate technical documentation for automation systems, including design specifications, process flows, and maintenance procedures.
+ Monitor and analyze system performance data to identify areas for continuous improvement. Implement enhancements to improve system efficiency, reliability, and throughput.
You Have:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
+ 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on automation, preferably in precision optics, manufacturing automation, or related high-tech manufacturing industries.
+ Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent).
+ Experience with automation technologies, such as robotics, PLC programming, CNC automation, and vision systems.
+ Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and testing of optical components, with a focus on automation.
+ Experience with FEA, thermal analysis, and other mechanical analysis tools.
+ Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address issues related to automation systems and mechanical design in complex manufacturing environments.
+ High level of precision and attention to detail in both design and implementation to ensure automation systems work seamlessly with precision optics production.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills to document designs, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide updates to stakeholders.
+ The ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, contributing to the design and implementation of integrated automation solutions.

Environment & Physical Demands:
+ Professional, fast-paced manufacturing environment with routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machine; noise level typical of a standard manufacturing environment
+ Prolonged sitting, computer and telephone use, as well as standing, filing, bending, reaching and lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds
+ Exposure to manufacturing plant floor requiring the use of personal protective equipment (ear plugs, safety glasses, etc.)
