Mechanical Engineer / Designer Position Summary: The Mechanical Engineer / Designer specializes in creating detailed technical drawings for motors and related assemblies. The role involves creating and converting engineering concepts into precise models, drawings, and specifications that guide manufacturing, assembly processes, and procurement activities. This role collaborates with design, systems, production, and quality engineers to optimize the motor configurations while assuring all industry, design, drafting standards, military specifications, and company internal procedures are maintained. The specific assignments and responsibilities will be consistent with the level of experience of the engineer. Job requirements: B.S in Engineering is desired or Associate’s Degree and extensive CAD and design experience is a minimum requirement (compensation based on education and/or experience) 5 years’+ experience working as a mechanical engineer / designer Strong PRO-E / CREO solid modeling experience and understanding of mechanical design principles Knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical designed systems including sensors & control systems. Experience with Parametric / PTC Technology: Creo elements/pro 5.0 and Pro/Intralink 10.1 Proficient in mechanical design, material properties, fits & finishes, geometric tolerancing (GD&T) Solid analytical skills are required to solve complex mechanical, static and dynamic problems Must work precisely, accurately, and with close attention to all details in a fast-paced environment Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Demonstrated strong knowledge of applying and separating various machining, key characteristics, and manufacturing operations such as turn, mill, drill, bore, tap, EDM, 3D printing Working knowledge of rotatory and axial motion mechanisms, wiring, cabling, connectors, O-rings, gears, ballscrews, bearings, and other mechanical elements Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc. Aerospace or defense experience desirable. Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities and Activities: Conceptualize and design intelligent 3D parametric models of parts and assemblies incorporating inter-part and assembly relations to capture design intent, with limited input/supervision Prepare detailed 3D design layouts of complex parts and assemblies, including fits, finishes, tolerances, materials selection, as requested by the project engineer. Prepare fully annotated drawings of parts and assemblies from 3D Assembly models. Prepare detailed manufacturing documentation of parts and assemblies in accordance with all company and industry standards, including a thorough tolerance stack-up to prove out design intent for fit and function. Effectively interpret and apply industry design, drafting standards, military specifications and company internal procedures Coordinate the accurate creation of a bills of material in the business system Release of drawings for production and development Perform analysis and calculations, including, stress for wall thickness, bolt sizing, seat loading, and preliminary weight calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and determines the proper fits of moving and stationary parts Analyze designs and determine opportunities for design improvements. Analyze, apply tolerances, datum selections and GD&T on drawings in effective ways to satisfies the design needs while satisfying design for manufacturability and ease of inspection. Additional / Job Responsibilities: Conduct research as needed Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required). Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements. Foster to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed) Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained. Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required. Work Environment: This job interacts in a professional office environment, development & engineering Lab, and manufacturing environments. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, hand tools, test equipment, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing, ESD and foot protection (as required). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/assembly/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: adhesives, chemicals, fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 9 hours, Monday – Thursday, 4 Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand. Some travel may be expected for this position (10%) including, corporate office, test labs, suppliers, and customer visits. General Physical Requirements: Frequent verbal communications Job may require Lab bench work, including manipulation of small objects and use of hand tools and test equipment The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Vision and color vision must pass job-required vision screening The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility This position is at our Chaska, MN office location.
