The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the development and management of programs to provide and maintain commercial mechanical systems for Biomat Facilities throughout North America. Biomat sites consist mainly of plasma & blood donation centers, but also include laboratories and offices. The position will be a remote position. Travel will be required - up to 25%.
Primary Responsibilities:
Source, select, and manage outside contractors and vendors for mechanical systems, installation, and service Providing engineering project support for the design and implementation of new and upgraded facilities, systems, and equipment ensuring compliance with regulations, codes, and environmental standards Establish and manage predictive and preventative maintenance programs for mechanical systems Establish and manage a capital replacement/lifecycle management plan for mechanical systems based on cost and risk to the business Provide troubleshooting support to internal/external partners as needed, remote and in person Provide operational, installation, and maintenance training to internal/external partners to support their roles Ensures compliance with company and regulatory policies and procedures and is responsible for optimum use of staff and technical capabilities within defined areas Serves as a consultant to management within specified area/discipline Makes independent decisions within defined areas of responsibility Provides technical/non-technical report status on budgets and schedules
Abilities, Knowledge & Skills:
Driven individual with self-accountability, capable of accomplishing goals with minimal management oversight Experienced self-starter with the knowledge and capability to lead and drive change Strong computer skills Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills Track record of successful program and project management Proven ability to develop and document processes, author specifications, author guidance and standard operating procedures Ability to review engineering drawings, process schematics, and design plans to identify environmental risks Ability to adapt to change Openness and exploratory nature, particularly with respect to future technology
Requirements:
B.S. degree in a relevant technical discipline (Engineering or a related field, mechanical engineering, or HVAC/R Engineering preferred) Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate Minimum 5 years of experience in a management/engineering role related to commercial mechanical systems. Previous experience in healthcare and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments is a plus. Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems (to include HVAC, refrigeration) and basic understanding of electrical and controls required to operate these systems Good understanding of OSHA, EPA, local, state, and federal regulations, and policies pertaining to commercial mechanical systems
Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience
Work is performed in an office and a laboratory/manufacturing environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposed to occasional extreme cold below 32* in production areas. Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves. Frequently sits for 4-6 hours per day. Stands for 2-4 hours per day. Frequent movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck and waist. Frequent foot movements. Color perception/discrimination, depth perception and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 50lbs. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Frequently performs routine tasks by following a set of written or oral instructions/procedures.
