**Job Description**
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering with a specific focus on thermal and fluid systems. Maintain a laboratory and experiments for instruction and research in thermal science, fluid mechanics, or in related areas. Develop and maintain a research program with applications in thermal science, fluid mechanics, or in related areas. Teach graduate level class as needed in the area of expertise. Engage students with practical educational and research activities. Engage in student development and mentorship. Work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner. Participate in departmental service activities, including undergraduate and graduate student advising, program assessment, interaction with prospective students, working with student organizations, etc.
+ A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty-four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
+ The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
+ May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.
+ The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
+ All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or funded research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement (https://admin.mnsu.edu/human-resources/our-benefits/bargaining-units-and-personnel-plans/) **)**
+ This position will advise undergraduate majors.
+ This position will supervise/advise graduate students.
+ The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering.
+ The successful candidate will be expected to develop a funded research/scholarship program related to Mechanical Engineering.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.
+ PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. (Conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 18, 2025.)
+ Earned B.S. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) engineering program. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
**Preferred Qualification**
+ Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
+ Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to teach thermodynamics, thermal analysis, heat transfer, applied thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, corresponding experimentation courses, and courses in areas such as control system, mechanical system design, etc.
+ Demonstrated industry working experiences and experiences in hardware and software application in the needed areas.
+ Demonstrated ability to use technology, develop, and deliver in person hybrid and online courses.
+ Demonstrated commitment to active, applied learning to develop programs in ways that contribute to student growth and learning.
+ Have or potential to involve undergraduate and/or graduate students in research or creative activity.
+ Evidence of active scholarly activities, including publications and/or professional presentations.
+ Have the Professional Engineering (PE) License, or have a plan to obtain a PE License in Mechanical Engineering.

The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering offers both BS and MS programs in mechanical engineering. The BS in Mechanical Engineering is an ABET accredited program.
