Mechanical Engineering - Co-Op

We at Generac are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering - Co-Op to join our innovative team of Engineers. This Co-Op offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving energy storage systems, with a focus on battery testing, validation of our lithium-ion battery technology, data acquisition, and automation. The role is ideal for candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in battery engineering and contribute to advancing lithium-ion battery technologies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Assist in setup, execution, and evaluation of the lithium-ion battery cell, module/packs, including performance testing, thermal testing, cycle life testing, and safety assessment. + Operate testing equipment and data acquisition systems to collect, analyze, and interpret test data. Work with engineers to identify areas of improvement and optimization. + Work closely with the engineering teams to install and calibrate sensors and instrumentation on battery test setups. Ensure accurate measurement and recording of relevant parameters. + Identify and troubleshoot issues during testing procedures. Collaborate with the engineering teams to address any anomalies or unexpected results. + Maintain detailed records of testing procedure, results and observations. Prepare comprehensive reports for internal use. Minimum Qualifications: + Currently enrolled in a BS or MS degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field. + Strong academic background in energy storage systems, electrochemical processes, and computational tools like MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, or Excel. + Basic understanding of lithium-ion battery principles, cell chemistries, testing procedure & methodologies. + Hands-on experience with battery assembly (e.g., pouch or coin cells) and testing equipment such as Arbin battery cycling systems. + Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. + Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail. + Eagerness to learn and contribute to a dynamic engineering environment. **Physical Demands** : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
