The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated Mechanical Engineering students for our Operations Co-op Program to start in our program in the Spring or Summer 2025 semester.

What You'll Do:

Our program offers a range of locations and responsibilities. Each assignment will challenge you to build on the knowledge you gain in the classroom.  You will be exposed to a variety of assignments mainly focusing on Maintenance and Reliability Engineering and Capital Project Management. These assignments are designed to develop you as a well-rounded engineer by exposing you to various departments and sites throughout the company. 

 

Maintenance & Reliability Engineering

You will learn the day-to-day roles that mechanical support plays in the upkeep and improvement of plant processes. This assignment will involve working directly with the equipment and end users and improving upon the designs of process equipment. You could have opportunities to work directly with the craftsmen in understanding rotational equipment such as pumps and agitators. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the design and maintenance required to keep equipment functioning properly. You will also handle maintenance projects from design through construction.

Capital Project Management

You have the opportunity to lead capital projects from design through construction. This assignment will involve working with instrumentation, configuring control systems, troubleshooting, improving upon the designs of process equipment, working with the craftsmen, and gaining invaluable experience with chemical processing equipment. You will learn the critical roles that mechanical and automation support play in all processes while working firsthand with the processing engineers to understand the needs of the unit and translate that into a concrete project.

To provide a variety of opportunities for our co-ops, other terms are available depending on student interest and business need. This is an excellent way to explore a diverse array of potential career paths and challenge yourself to try new roles while you are still in school.

 

Locations

Co-op terms in the Additives division of Lubrizol can span between Wickliffe, OH; Painesville, OH; Deer Park, TX; and Bayport, TX. Wickliffe is Lubrizol’s global headquarters and is home to our R&D, mechanical testing, and pilot plant facilities. Deer Park, Bayport, and Painesville are the manufacturing homes to many of Lubrizol Additives’ specialty products. 

Co-op terms in the Advanced Materials division of Lubrizol can span between Avon Lake, OH; Brecksville, OH; Bowling Green, OH; and Victor, MT, with more opportunities continually opening up at other sites. Avon Lake is home to our process development group, pilot plant facilities, and production of many of Advanced Material’s specialty products. Brecksville houses the corporate offices of the Advanced Materials Division along with many labs and pilot plant facilities. Our other sites offer manufacturing of various products in different markets.

 

Mechanical Engineering Co-ops may encounter a portion or all of the below physical requirements during their co-op rotations: 

Willing/able to work outdoors in inclement weather.  Presence of nuisance odors, noise, heavy machinery from chemical processes, testing/laboratories facilities.  Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements. These include but are not limited to; safety footwear, safety apparel, eye protection, hard hat, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.  Handle glassware and equipment for laboratory work.  Operation of equipment and/or handling of chemicals if/when properly trained. 

 

Co-ops often shadow operators. Physical requirements during this shadowing experience include: 

Able to work in a fixed position, standing or sitting, for long portions of the workday.  Completion of work hours on shift schedule; for example, swing shift, second shift, or third shift (maximum of 6 weeks per term)  Requires use of appropriate PPE to fulfill safety requirements.  Physically able to climb and work in elevated area (i.e., climbing and descending stairs repeatedly during shift). What We're Looking For: Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.  Students who are interested in working in a chemical manufacturing environment. Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date between December 2026 through May 2028. Completion of two co-op terms is required, while three or more are strongly preferred. Co-op terms should be full time (40 hours per week), with one or more terms scheduled in the fall or spring semester. Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.

All co-ops present their work at the end of each work session. This is an excellent opportunity to improve your public speaking skills and hear what other co-ops are doing. Full-time opportunities after graduation. Our engineering co-op program is an important vehicle for hiring full-time engineers at Lubrizol.
