Nightwing is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern with the technical and communication skills needed to support ongoing programs at our Springfield, Virginia location. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, possess a positive attitude, and work well with engineering and technician teams.
This position is an onsite role.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Support of multidisciplinary engineering activities and senior engineers on various projects within the program
Design and analysis of tools/mechanisms, creation of detailed fabrication drawings, mechanical testing, rapid prototyping and assembly, report and presentation writing, and design review support
Basic Qualifications:
Enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a BS or MS in the area of Mechanical Engineering
Rising Junior or Senior by the start of Summer 2025, a GPA of 3.0+ in a 4.0 grade scale is desired
U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance
Fundamental engineering skills and knowledge
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Good oral and written communication skills
Experience and/or coursework in solid modeling CAD (preferably SolidWorks)
Strong attention to detail, desire to learn, and problem-solving skills
Background check and drug screen required (every external new hire in the U.S.), drug screen only performed on re-hires who have been gone for more than 1 year
Desired Skills:
Coursework in Mechanical Engineering
Coursework in Finite Element Analysis
Experience working in a team environment
Experience with mechanical assembly
Experience with laboratory testing
Experience with computational analysis software (e.g. Matlab, Python, MathCad)

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
