TDYF Naval Internship Program
Job Summary:
As a mechanical engineering intern at Teledyne FLIR Surveillance Division Orlando, you will be placed on a team of highly skilled engineers and be asked to perform challenging tasks daily. Our team works to support a challenging Naval mission that supports strategic impact for the United States. Our products are used as force multipliers and provide United States servicemen and women the advantage in critical environments. This internship is an exciting opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding industry. This position will challenge you and give you ample opportunities to gain valuable hands-on work experience. During this experience, you will gain greater skill in theoretical and practical application and be placed in situations where you are a key contributor to building prototype product.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist highly skilled engineers in creating and assembling prototypesDevelop test metrics and methodsUtilize SolidWorks to create, edit, and improve prototype componentsUtilize CAD to depict subsystem and system drawingsWork with a cross-functional team to ensure the product functions throughout challenging Design Validation Testing (DVT)Support data collection events (indoors/outdoors)Present test findings to engineers and senior leadershipWork with team members to order material and qualify incoming productWork on systems in all stages of development: from prototyping to root cause analysisAssist in problem solving exercises such as thermal optimizationLab equipment & experiment set-up (general or specific tasks)Calibration cycle assistance including equipment maintenance supportNew equipment research, ordering, and setup (i.e., bearings)Conduct web searches and technical surveysSupport engineering documentation efforts (data files, reports, drawings)Other related tasks (i.e., analysis, report writing, presentations), as necessaryPerform maintenance of lab (Clean-up, reorganization, labeling, and disposal)Equipment to be Used: Windows Computers (SolidWorks, CAD, MATLAB, LabView, Office 365), Teledyne FLIR products (i.e., IR sensors, EO sensors, LRF’s, etc.), general lab equipment (power supplies, multimeters, optomechanical staging, light sources, video recorder), frame grabbers (analog, digital, USB), accelerometers, microscopes, spectrometers, EO/IR sources.
Desired Qualifications:
3 Years of College courses minimumWorking level understanding of SolidWorks, CAD, LabView, MATLAB, and Office 365Interest in mechanical engineeringDesire to work in a lab environmentAptitude for hands-on mechanical projectsAbility to take direction and execute without constant supervisionDesire to work in a dynamic environmentSelf-motivated worth ethicGood oral and written communication skillsGood problem-solving skillsApplicable grasp of analytical principlesReadiness to explore new experiences and responsibilitiesOrganization and time managementApplicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
Pay range: $25 - $35 per hour, based on experience
