Mechanical Engineering Intern/Co-op - Spring 2025

Job Responsibilities:

 

Assisting a Fulltime Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering expertise in the area of mechanical design, hydraulics, drivetrains, motors, simulation analysis, or engineering testing procedures.  Assist in the design and development of innovative forklifts and material handling equipment focusing on one of the following:

Mechanical Design - Create layouts of proposed design ensuring that designs are functional, safe, reliable, serviceable, manufacturable, cost effective and esthetically and ergonomically correct. Select appropriate materials, organize bill of materials data and approve detail drawings. Hydraulics - Propose hydraulic systems to satisfy vehicle performance and reliability goals. Develop specifications to meet goals, design systems, and specify components. Oversee design activities necessary to develop, prototype, and launch an approved system and components. Drivetrains - Introduce alternate drive train concepts to meet definitions or specifications. Perform appropriate analysis of proposed gear drive, including gears, bearings, shafts, and housings for the variety of operating conditions expected to be encountered. Motors - Research new motor designs, materials, and components. Research manufacturing processes. Provide cost estimates for projects. Write design documentation. Simulation Analysis - Perform structural or stability analysis of proposed or existing product, structure, or component designs to ensure that design goals are met. Analyze failed structures or components to determine probable causes of failure. Perform basic load and stress calculations and perform analysis using finite element analysis and fatigue life prediction tools. Testing Procedures - Identify the commonly-used concepts, methods, and procedures for the detailed development and analysis of experimental and standardized tests for new and modified products or components. Devise and apply validation procedures for components and systems under development. Evaluate new components and technologies.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

Candidate should be pursuing a Bachelors degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering Good written communication, verbal communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills Candidate must have reliable means of transporation
