Mechanical Engineering Intern - GS

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Government Services, you’ll help in the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of our products from high-level system architecture to detailed component features. You’ll be implementing design solutions using a variety of core mechanical engineering topics such as sheet metal, machined component, injection molding, and 3D printing, while also learning about general engineering practices such as test procedures, first article inspections, and documentation. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following:  

Using Solidworks to create designs for new plastic, machined, sheet metal, and 3D printed components.  

Gathering and analyzing performance data using high temperature thermal chambers and vibration tables. 

Designing mechanical fixtures and aides to help in a variety of electrical tests.

Measuring First Article Samples on parts from our suppliers.

Analyzing our designs using both traditional hand calculations and CFD/FEA

Completing Tolerance Analysis to help identify production risks

Provide support to mechanical engineering staff as needed.

This job might be for you if: 

You are currently in pursuit of BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with one to two years engineering education completed. Junior standing is preferred.

You enjoy being creative in mechanical designs, often starting with a blank slate.

You enjoy proving design performance by performing engineering calculations and prototyping concepts.

You have the ability to conduct functional tests by following detailed written procedures.

You have strong problem-solving skills with a desire to learn.

You have one year SolidWorks Experience.

Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics or Finite Element Analysis is a plus.

Pay range Data

($17.00 - $28.50 per hour)* Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school.
