The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated and talented summer intern enrolled in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering program to join our team. In this role, you will work both independently and collaboratively to support various projects involving electromechanical designs, prototypes, and UAV construction. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in design, fabrication, and engineering analysis within a fast-paced environment.

Contribute to the design, development, and fabrication of mechanical and electromechanical systemsGain hands-on experience in CAD modeling, prototyping, and mechanical assemblyWork alongside engineers and technicians to support reverse engineering and UAV replication efforstLearn about manufacturing techniques, materials selection, and technical documentation in a real-world engineering setting

This position is based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and requires full-time on-site presence.

Responsibilities:

Work individually and within a small team to complete replications, electromechanical designs, and prototypesPerform prototype design based on customer requirements and develop associated design and technical packagesUtilize CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or Fusion 360) to create 3D models and detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and assemblySupport reverse engineering efforts by assisting in measurements, data collection, and documentationAssist in fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical componentsResearch and apply materials analysis, tolerancing, and manufacturing methods to optimize designsWork closely with engineers, machinists, and technicians to refine prototypes and improve manufacturabilityDocument designs, modifications, and testing results to support project developmentContribute to technical reports, manuals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholdersFollow safety and quality standards in engineering, prototyping, and testing environments


Qualifications:

Required: 

Enrolled in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering undergraduate or graduate programStrong proficiency with CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360Ability to produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings for manufacturing and documentationExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and in a teamStrong communication skills and ability to document technical work clearlyBasic understanding of engineering principles, mechanical systems, and prototypingInterest in reverse engineering, UAV design, and manufacturing processesMust be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance

Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, or hands-on fabrication techniqu3esFamiliarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and materials analysisExposure to aerospace, robotics, or UAV-related projectsUnderstanding of electronics integration into mechanical systemsPassion for pushing the boundaries of technology and working in an innovative environment

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$39,900 - 79,900 USD
