**Job Summary and Description:**
This student position will report a senior team lead overseeing activities in EPRI’s high temperature mechanical testing facility.
Primary responsibilities will involve assisting engineers with setting up tests in the mechanical testing laboratory, monitoring saw work in the high bays, helping execute on heat treatments and assisting with welding setup tasks. Secondary responsibilities will be data processing, SolidWorks modeling and assisting with building out a database for material properties. There may be additional opportunity to work on specific projects based on current needs and the student’s skillset.
This position will seek a student who can support 15 to 20 hours a week (minimum) part time with opportunity for full time (40 hours) during the summer months (May to August). This position will also require the student to work in-person at EPRI’s Charlotte facility.
**Ideal candidate:**
+ Currently be pursuing a Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Material Science, or similar field. ]
+ Junior or Senior standing while master student preferred
**Key Knowledge/Skills should be:**
+ Basic knowledge of high temperature mechanical testing methods (e.g. tensile, creep, and fatigue) desired
+ Knowledge of basic machining operations
+ Experience/knowledge of material property data (creep, fatigue, hardness, etc)
+ Experience with SolidWorks modeling
+ Experience using Python or similar coding languages
+ Experience working with large datasets and use of more advanced excel functions (VBA, data solvers, etc) would be beneficial
+ Strong work ethic, desire to learn and ability to follow directions from senior engineers
The hourly rate range for Student positions are:
+ Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour
+ Masters: $25-31 per hour
+ Ph.D: $27-34 per hour
These ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
