Job Description
The Mechanical Designer position assists the drafting efforts for one or more projects in support of a Lead Mechanical Designer. The individual will communicate regularly with the Lead Designer, interface effectively with all levels of project staff or management, and ensure the overall production of deliverables meets project schedules.
ResponsibilitiesInterpret and analyze general design provided by engineers.Prepare detailed design for engineer’s approval.Under supervision, prepare and produce construction drawing packages by providing detailed designs using company standards and drafting techniques.Familiarize with principles of pipe stress and coordinate analysis with Engineer.Assume responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs.Communicate and work closely with all disciplines.Review vendor equipment drawings.Develop layouts from job scope and vendor information.Essential SkillsProficiency in Electrical design, AutoCAD, and Schematic design.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical drafting.Ability to work directly with a Lead Designer and interact with other stakeholders on key projects.Experience in physical design projects using AutoCAD.Experience in a piping-related industry and involvement with pipe stress or coordinating analysis.Additional Skills & QualificationsTechnology training in Drafting and Design from an accredited school. Associate degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in drafting/design in the Petro-Chemical Industry field.Minimum of 5 years’ experience utilizing AutoCAD.Ability to utilize AutoCAD 3D Software.Cadworx Plant 3D experience preferred.Experience with a consulting engineering firm preferred.Proficiency in MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.Candidates should be within daily commuting distance of Birmingham, AL.Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid setting. Employees are required to work in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Monday and Wednesday are full remote workdays. Fridays have operating hours until 11:00 AM. The environment offers a flexible schedule and consistent management.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
