Position Overview:
Siemens Mobility Rail Division is seeking a Mechanical Production Engineering Manager for its Sacramento, California Facility. The candidate will lead and manage the mechanical production design team supporting Passenger Coaches. This position is suited for professionals with experience in the rail industry and a proficiency for developing mechanical designs for vehicles.
Reporting to the Director of Applications Engineering, Passenger Coaches, this role involves managing a team of Mechanical Design Engineers based in Sacramento, CA, and expanding into Lexington, NC. Responsibilities include ensuring the team executes all production engineering tasks in compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Additionally, this role requires contributing to design tasks, such as creating complex parts, assemblies, and bills of material, while providing guidance, training, and mentorship to the design team. The candidate must be detail-oriented, take ownership of projects and personnel development, work independently on projects, troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervision, and communicate technical concepts and challenges within an internationally distributed team environment. Developing conceptual designs and leading teams to implement final solutions are key aspects of this role. Applicants should have extensive experience in a manufacturing environment and the ability to enhance team members' mechanical design skills.
This role involves driving the team to deliver quality production support, including designing Engineering Change Orders, Field Modification Instructions, Repair Procedures, and reviewing/dispositioning Quality Notifications. Coordination of priorities, schedules, and budgets across multiple projects, in close collaboration with Design Leads and Engineering project managers, is also expected in this position.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Provide leadership and management to a team of production engineers, ensuring investigation of incoming production issues and offering engineering guidance on necessary changes.Lead and execute customized production orders, either independently or as part of an engineering team, with minimal supervision, adhering to industry standards and best engineering practices.Offer drafting support to engineers on submittals and as-built drawings, including designing new components, modifying mechanical drawings, and incorporating changes from production, field, or customer feedback.Collaborate and provide cross-functional support with Engineering Project Managers (EPMs), design leads, designers, and system engineers while managing multiple concurrent projects and platform designs.Support procurement, manufacturing, and testing cycles.To thrive in this role, you have:
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 10 or more years of similar work experienceAssociate degree in a related field with 12 or more years of similar work experienceMinimum of 5 years of experience with PTC Creo / PDMLink or equivalentExperience working in a manufacturing environment, interfacing with factory workers, creating bills of materials and work instructions, and developing engineering drawings and repair procedures.Mechanical Design experience, specifically in Rail Vehicle DesignSheet metal and welded Steel Structures design experienceDesign experience with large and small welded and/or bolted assembliesMechanical / Electrical integration experienceFiberglass and plastic part design experienceExperience with corrosion protection (e.g., paint, powder coat, anodizing, zinc plating), communicating with suppliers and customers, both internal and external, and creating and presenting designs for customer design reviews.Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D models and drawings for legacy projects)Experience with Windchill or similar Product Lifecycle Management software (PLM)SAP Experience in releasing work packages using Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Notices (ECN, ECO)Why you'll love working for Siemens!

This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. Details regarding our benefits can be found here: https://www.benefitsquickstart.com/siemens/index.html. The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA, is $110,000 - $140,000. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
