Project Engineer – Water/Wastewater Construction

About the Role
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support a $25M water/wastewater infrastructure project for a major municipal client. This role is ideal for a driven, detail-oriented engineer with experience in mechanical piping systems, industrial construction, and public sector projects. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and field staff to ensure smooth project execution, quality control, and compliance with all safety regulations.
This position is a career growth opportunity, as the selected candidate may transition into a Project Manager role after one year.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Project Coordination & Administration:
+ Assist the Project Manager in planning, execution, and close-out of the project.
+ Act as the primary liaison between clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
+ Maintain project documentation, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
✔ Construction Oversight & Field Support:
+ Oversee mechanical piping system installation, valves, and equipment.
+ Conduct site surveys, cost tracking, and productivity analysis.
+ Monitor QA/QC for field work and ensure compliance with project specifications.
+ Enforce OSHA 10 and safety regulations for on-site personnel.
✔ Scheduling & Budgeting:
+ Update project schedules using Microsoft Project & Primavera P6 (preferred).
+ Monitor material procurement and budget alignment.
+ Assist with subcontractor management and coordination.
✔ Client & Team Collaboration:
+ Work closely with municipal client and external stakeholders.
+ Attend project meetings and provide status updates to leadership.
+ Prepare progress reports and look-ahead schedules.
What You Bring
✅ Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (required)
+ 2–5 years of experience on water/wastewater, heavy industrial, or municipal projects (over $5M)
+ Experience on mechanical projects preferred (piping systems, valves, equipment)
+ Commercial construction experience will not be considered.
✅ Technical Skills:
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and Office Suite.
+ Experience with field productivity tracking, cost reporting, and scheduling.
+ Strong understanding of safety compliance (OSHA 10 required).
+ Familiarity with Procore, Primavera P6, and Viewpoint Vista (preferred but not required).
✅ Certifications & Licensing (Preferred):
+ OSHA 10 (Required); OSHA 40 & HAZWOPER a plus
+ TWIC certification preferred
+ PE license or EIT a plus
✅ Work Environment & Schedule:
+ 95% on-site role at a water recycling plant
+ Work hours: 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM (50-hour average workweek)
+ Team structure: Reports to PM & Superintendent; works with 2 Foremen & craft staff.
+ Physical requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and operate hand/power tools.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $62.00/hr.
