Job Description
Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the Mechanical Quality Technician inspects incoming parts and supplies, performs first article, in-process, and final inspections, as well as inspections of setups and fixtures. This role requires maintaining or scheduling maintenance of testing tools, monitoring inspection schedules, and ensuring compliance with inspection requirements. The technician is expected to read and analyze blueprints, quality documents, and manuals, verify measurements and other specifications to plans, and possess a basic knowledge of mechanical systems, critical thinking skills, and proficiency with standard testing tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, optical comparators, and CMM equipment and software. This position is very hands-on with a variety of mechanical inspection tools.
ResponsibilitiesInspect first articles, in-process parts, and products prior to shipment using gauges, coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, and vision.Generate spreadsheets for data collection.Generate first article inspection reports.Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments.Test incoming raw materials.Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, fixtures, and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of machined parts.Read instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts being machined within specified tolerances.Wear proper safety equipment and comply with company safety rules at all times.Essential SkillsMechanical and technical capacity.Organizational skills.Problem-solving and analytical skills.Time management.Initiative.Good problem-solving and conceptual skills.Blueprint analysis, mechanical system knowledge, critical thinking, and tool familiarity.Excellent communication skills to convey detailed instructions to machine operators and to communicate with customers and engineers regarding designs and drawings.Mathematical skills.Proven ability to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat, and tidy.Work Environment
