Mechanical - Sheet Metal Worker - Selkirk, NY

Job Summary
Pipe fit in shops, yards, buildings and passenger coaches.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Build, erect, assemble, install, dismantle, and maintain parts made of copper, brass, tin, zinc, white/black metal of 10 gauge and lighter, including brazing, soldering, tinning and leading Bend, fit, cut, thread, braze, connect and disconnect air, water, gas, oil and steam pipes Operate pipe threading machines Oxy-propane and arc welding Move locomotives Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Pay Rate

Training Rate - $36.92/hour Apprentice (1st 345 work days from start date at work location) - 90% of journeyman rate Apprentice (2nd 345 work days from start date at work location) - 95 % of journeyman rate Full Journeyman Rate (upon reporting to location) - $41.02/hour
 

Training
You will attend paid training, which could be out of town. CSX will pay for travel and lodging as required by collective bargaining agreement.
 

Selkirk, NY ONLY- This position shares a joint roster between the Mechanical, Facilities, and Signals Departments. Once hired and upon reporting to Selkirk,  placement in a position will be determined by the union agreement seniority rule in which bids/awarded positions are based on seniority. When accepting an Electrician position, it’s important to understand that if you hold this position at Selkirk, you may hold a position in any of these three departments throughout your CSXT career:

 

Mechanical Electrician works in a Locomotive Shop. Facilities Electrician covers road territory and travels. Signals Electrician-Switch Heater covers road territory and travels. 


Minimum Qualifications

18 years of age or older High School Diploma/GED Valid Driver's License One year experience reading and interpreting technical drawings or schematics One year experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) One year experience using oxy-propane torch One year of pipefitting experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) Three years combined sheet metal, fabrication, and/or pipefitting experience

Physical Requirements

Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection

Basic Competencies

Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications) Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills) Mechanical aptitude
