Position Summary

Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.

Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshootingPerforms quality control testing.Maintains supplies and/or inventory needed for performance of testsCalibrates and assesses the accuracy of laboratory equipmentPerforms phlebotomy using age specific techniquesRecognizes normal, abnormal or unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test resultsObserves principles of data security/patient confidentialityAssists the with outpatients and training of new lab assistantsAssists in training of new technicians and/or technologists with instructions from a technologist or laboratory managerTo perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. Minimum EducationAssociate’s degree or a Medical Laboratory Specialist from the US Military 50-week course prior to April 25, 1995 required.Required SkillsCertification/LicenseASCP, HEW, or equivalent certified Medical Laboratory Technician required within one year from date of hire.Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
