Responsibilities
Job Summary:
St. Anthony Hospital Medical Surgical departments have 32 beds per floor. Our 5th floor has 32 beds for our post-operative Surgical patients. The most common surgical patients are joint replacements, general surgery, gynecological procedures and urology. Surgical volumes drive our unit census. We work in close collaboration with our Peri-Op team for patient placement and bed planning. General medical patients round out our unit census as overflow from other hospital units. All rooms are private with their own restrooms, supply cabinets as well as couches and privacy curtains for the comfort of families who wish to stay close. Computers are also located in each patient room as well as outside of every 2 patient rooms to facilitate bedside documentation and medication verification. We utilize EPIC as our electronic health record.
The management structure of the unit consists of an experienced Clinical Manager and a Clinical Coordinator/Educator who work together to oversee the unit. The Charge Nurses provide additional clinical support for the staff and help to maintain the flow of the unit. The staff is composed of RNs and nursing assistants. Support services include: Respiratory Therapy, 24-hour Pharmacists, PT/OT, IV Therapy RNs, Dieticians and RN Care Managers. RN patient assignments are determined by patient census and acuity. Our standard RN to patient ratios are 1:5 with CNA support.
