Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusionsOperates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.Performs phlebotomy using age specific techniquesObserves principles of data security/patient confidentialityAssists in training of new assistants and techsTo perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. This position description does not restrict the right of management to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities with and without notice.Minimum EducationBachelor’s degree in medical laboratory scienceOR Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological scienceOR Associate’s degree in another discipline with documented chemistry and biology hours that satisfy CLIA requirements for high complexity testing personnel.ORHave previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under § 493.1489;(4) On or before April 24, 1995 be a high school graduate or equivalent and have either -(i) Graduated from a medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS; or(ii) Successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).Required SkillsCertifications/LicenseMedical Laboratory Scientist certification by ASCP or AMT, or HEW(MT), or equivalent certification is required within one year from date of hire. Training/Certification prior to 1988 -Certification program or Military training, ASCP or HEW certification is accepted.**** copy of highest diploma/degree required on or before first day of employment.Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
