Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** Under direction of the laboratory section leadership and with the ability to work independently, provides higher level support for the CoreLab, often involving (but not limited to) specialized testing, Quality Assurance development, and/or development and implementation of new procedures. Testing is routinely performed without supervision and complex interpretation of results is required. When applicable, keeps meticulous notes in regard to experimental methods, data, and conclusions. With laboratory area leadership, develops and maintains applicable standard operating procedures and policies. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. Responsibilities may include setting up and monitoring ongoing programs specific to the laboratory section together with department leadership. With laboratory area leadership, develops and maintains procedure manual and manages inventory of supplies. The Reference Laboratory Supervisor oversees all aspects of advanced serological testing performed in the Immunohematology Reference Lab and coordinates Pathology and Laboratory Medicine residents training in Immunohematology. Job Duties: - Reviews serologic work, verifying problem patient records (20%). - Directs advanced serological work for difficult problem resolution (5%) - Maintains a detailed procedure manual, evaluating and implementing new techniques (10%)/ - manages inventory of supplies (5%). - Performs workload recording (5%). - Maintains compliance with AABB standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories to maintain certification as an AABB Reference Laboratory (10%) - Coordinates residency training in serological techniques (30%). - Performs all duties of a Blood Bank Technologist in the Blood Bank Laboratory. - Other duties as assigned Relationships/Authorities: - Reports to the Blood Bank Chief Supervisor, Medical Director or Assistant Medical Director - Interacts with regulatory inspectors, auditors and assessors as necessary Education/Experience: - MS and three years of clinical laboratory experience - BS in Medical Technology and two years of clinical laboratory experience - BS and five years' experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience - ASCP registered as an MT and SBB strongly desirable - Must be NYS Licensed or eligible for NYS licensure - One year of Reference laboratory experience desirable Schedule 8 AM-4:30 PM; WKNDS/HOLS **EOE Minorities / Females / Protected Veterans / Disabled:** The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University’s mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
