Media & Culture Director

The Director, Media & Culture position exists to provide senior leadership and oversight to all aspects of the Plugged In ministry, including content creation, content marketing and distribution, staff training, and attainment of annual goals. The Director is also the principal spokesperson for Plugged In to external media. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: + Oversees (and contributes to) the creation, editing and distribution of daily updates to the Plugged In website, including movie, TV, video game and music reviews, blog posts, and other new content + Writes, speaks publicly, and creates content on behalf of Plugged In + Develops Plugged In staff and offers professional staff development + Serves as department head and member of Family Ministries senior staff + Supervises staff for all Plugged In content, assuring “quality control” in the areas of discernment, adherence to orthodoxy and numeric ratings of reviews + Strategizes and writes annual and long-range plans for Plugged In and all Plugged In products + Manages income and expense budgets for all Plugged In expenditures. Has P&L responsibility for all Plugged In media and is accountable for attainment of annual financial goals + Provides direction marketing to ensure innovative thinking is part of the way FOF offers Plugged In products to radio stations, syndicated outlets, and other media sources + Initiates marketing and expansion programs that increase Plugged In’s reach to new audiences + Works closely with FOF’s Alliances Dept. on Safety and product partnerships related to entertainment (BSecure, Clearplay, TV Guardian, etc.) + Meets with FOF donors as requested by PA staff + Provides leadership (and budget) to our Spanish Plugged In efforts + Conducts research as necessary to ensure Plugged In programs/products are meeting constituent needs + Serves as primary liaison with all external groups who wish to partner with Plugged In or use its content Other Duties/Responsibilities: + Performs other duties as assigned Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job: + Supervises editorial, design, administrative staff + Manages Plugged In interns Working Environment/Physical Requirements: + Office environment; requires travel to theatres and other venues for reviews and screenings. + Currently, this position requires a screening of a film every 2.4 days (151 annually, but subject to change, most screening in Denver) JOBQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Character/Spiritual: Exemplifies Ephesians 5:1-2, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us...” Pursues the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conduct (http://media.focusonthefamily.com/fotf/pdf/about-us/human-resources/moral-policy.pdf) and Statement of Faith (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/about/foundational-values#values) ; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer Engages in Christian ministry Demonstrates behaviors aligned with FOF core values (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/about/foundational-values#values) This position is a “position of responsibility” as defined in the Focus on the Family Moral Policy and is subject to the parameters defined therein regarding divorce This role is considered a Spokesperson for Focus on the Family and should represent Focus’ position and tone at all times Personal Characteristics: + Strong entrepreneurial bent – an independent and creative thinker + Good leadership skills; able to work with and motivate others -- individually and as a team + Mature and professional; can represent the ministry to outside parties + A visionary who can “think outside the box” when it comes to new product development and marketing Knowledge/Experience: + Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in Communications + 10+ years combined experience in the areas of public speaking, radio or television broadcasting, radio disc jockey, journalism, and cultural issues effecting parents, youth leaders, and youth ages 12-18 + Thorough understanding of Focus on the Family mission, philosophy, values, and objectives as well as the Strengthen Families mission statement, objectives, and goals Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts: + Advanced writing skills; polished speaking skills; ability to clearly articulate and defend a position + A high degree of discernment in his/her personal life regarding wise and godly media choices + Thorough understanding of social and cultural issues that impact the family + Strong organizational skills + Advanced social skills: ability to work in a hostile environment, ability to develop relationships and create goodwill in the secular and Christian arenas + Competent in use of PC software and the use of a smartphone (for ongoing monitoring of the Plugged In app) + Ability to create and monitor a budget for the entire department + High degree of vision, creativity, and passion for entertainment-related issues and a strong desire to equip the faith community with pertinent entertainment information, while instilling a desire to honor the Lord with media decisions Stewardship Requirements: + Director GOA Salary Range: $89,436 to $102,957/yr.
