Medical Assisant

Description:

1.\tEscorts patients to and from exam rooms, provider offices, and treatment room as appropriate.

2.\tRecords patient data prior to each provider visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.

3.\tObtains all necessary patient records as required by provider and verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.

4.\tPrepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.

5.\tAssists providers with exams and procedures as requested.

6.\tAssists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing education literature, etc.

7.\tObtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.

8.\tAdministers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections after appropriate training and supervision, including but not limited to, vaccines and biological growth factors.

9.\tDocuments all elements of care. Communicates all pertinent information to the attending provider.

10.\tMaintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Processes instruments and equipment as needed. Adheres to CCNW policies regarding use of protective personal equipment (PPE) and hygiene standards in workplace.

11.\tProvides telephone or in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge. Communicates clinical information from screening interviews to appropriate providers/supervisors in a timely manner to support care coordination.

12.\tPhones in prescriptions, complete with proper documentation, and keeps an accurate medication list for all patients under his/her care.

13.\tSchedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-up on test results, as applicable.

14.\tAssists with select pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed. Informs provider of patient reschedules and no shows.

15.\tObtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.

16.\tPerforms other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing, faxing, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or provider.

17.\tMaintains indigent drug program and sample drug program as assigned.

18.\tMaintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.

19.\tParticipates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.

20.\tMaintains patient confidentiality.

21.\tPerforms all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

•\tWashington: High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Graduate from an accredited program for Medical Assistants. Current DOH MA Certified or able to obtain DOH MA Registered credentials or Current DOH Nursing Assistant Certified in a hospital or clinic setting. CPR certification.

•\tprevious phlebotomy experience preferred

•\thave a five (5) years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.

•\tRegularly stand, bend, stoop/crouch, grasp, reach, talk, and hear. Occasionally sit, lift up to 40 pounds, pull/push up to 40 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds

•\tBe able to clearly see up to 5 feet with or without corrective lenses
