Requirements:
The Medical Assistant will support the Nurse Care Manager of the OBAT program; s/he will fulfill a range of clinical and administrative duties designed to ensure optimal functioning of the program. Administrative duties include maintaining patient records, coding and filling out insurance forms, scheduling appointments, answering telephones, and handling correspondence,
billing and bookkeeping. Clinical duties include taking medical histories, performing basic laboratory tests, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, explaining treatment protocols to patients, and assisting physicians or nurses during exams. The Medical Assistant will report to the Nurse Care Manager and serve as a vital member of the OBAT team. S/he will ensure all patient data is recorded accurately for evaluation purposes and coordinate the compilation of data required by SAMHSA and other relevant entities.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant certification through one of the following organizations required within 90 days of hire: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Medical Certification Agency (AMCA)- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMA), National Health Career Association (NHA) - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), American Medical Technologist (AMT) - Registered Medical Assistant (RMA),
American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Association of Health Professionals- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)
or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) - National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA). Current American Heart Association BLS (basic life support) for healthcare workers (with AED) required. Previous experience preferred.
