Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will assist providers with patient preparation, office procedures, examination, and education of patients. You will support the clinical care team to ensure optimal patient flow and manage patient volume. Your role will involve screening patients for preventative care needs, conducting surveillance for care transitions, and performing motivational interviews. You will also participate in performance improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with safety and infection control standards.

ResponsibilitiesAssist providers with patient preparation, office procedures, examination, and patient education.Support the clinical care team to ensure optimal patient flow and manage patient volume.Screen patients for preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to care, safety concerns, and potential fall risk.Conduct surveillance for transitions of care, urgent/emergent care, or follow-up tasks.Perform motivational interviews including patient screening/coaching on disease management, motivation to change, learning care needs, and community outreach needs.Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients and notify providers of findings.Report actual/potential problems concerning patients, families, and associates.Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.Attend training for safety, infection control, etc.Ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired, checking and maintaining emergency equipment, and keeping the area free of clutter.Engage in population management activities including patient self-management support, care/health goal setting, pre-visit planning, and capturing information for health care improvement activities.Perform selected patient/laboratory testing including Point of Care Testing, tuberculosis skin testing, electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, vision and hearing testing.Remove sutures/staples and document activities in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR).Perform required patient follow-up including pap smears, Pb levels, HIV, mammograms, and STDs.Collect and process specimens and complete requisitions.Provide escort and assist with patient discharge activities.Provide chaperoning and fulfill infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned.Update records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manage drug and medical supply inventories.Provide telephone screening services to gather information from patients, determine appropriate disposition, and document per established protocols.Insert intravenous catheters for physician-initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications.Insert, remove, and monitor urinary catheters for procedures, and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular.Perform phlebotomy and propose patient medication refills for provider approval in the EMR.Complete requisitions for tests and contact insurance companies for pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals.Essential SkillsBasic Life Support (BLS) certificationPatient care experience, specifically in an ambulatory setting or similarCustomer service skillsCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical AssistantsExperience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalentRegistered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 yearAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GEDExternship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferredCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred1 year of experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent requiredBachelor’s degree in exercise physiology/science or related major, or successful completion of a cardiac technician course preferredWork Environment

This role is based in a cardiology office, which can see over 50 patients in a day. The work environment involves assisting with patient care in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
