JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, midlevel providers, and other clinical staff in providing medical services to patients with provider delegation within scope of practice.                                       

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

I.          Following WHMC Corporate Values and Standards of Behavior:

a.         Brings a compassionate Attitude, to provide Quality and Great Service through Innovation, Teamwork.

b.         Knowledgeable and demonstrates an understanding of ethical considerations in patient care as well as HIPAA regulations.

II.          Performing administrative and clerical functions as necessary

a.         Ensuring appropriate and timely documentation of an encounter either on paper/EMR.

b.         Ensure proper payor authorizations, covering needed skilled visits.

c.         Assure compliance of physician orders, pre-authorization and other documentation through entry into the EMR.

d.         Route patient/caregiver and provider’s calls to the appropriate party.

e.         Route incoming faxes to the appropriate party.

f.          Take report from clinical staff and translate to master visit schedule when needed.

g.         Double checks report against the master visit schedule.

h.         Maintains office and medical supply inventory and order as needed.

i.          Receives and processes Pro-time and lab results.

j.          Provides other office support as needed.

III.   Other Responsibilities

a.          Attends and participates in Home Health Staff Meetings and other meetings as requested.

b.         Attends and/or completes mandatory in-service education for clinic staff.

c.          Remains responsible for identification of personal educational needs, and works with Home Health Director to meet those needs identified.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.      

                                                                                                                                                                                                     Training and Experience

A minimum of one (1) year experience as a medical assistant is preferred.  Previous experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred. Experience with electronic medical records preferred. Evidence of a working style that emphasizes collegiality, teamwork, participation, communication, and service orientation required.  The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and assist in other duties as needed and possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask required.  Must possess a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion and maintain a professional appearance.                                                                                   

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current WA State Medical Assistant Certification required. Current BLS certification required.
