Job Description

Join our dynamic team in a hand surgeon's office as a Medical Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting back office functions and ensuring efficient patient care.

ResponsibilitiesConduct patient intakes and load rooms.Perform vital checks and medication reconciliation.Prepare charts prior to patient visits.Prep orthopedic injections for the doctor to administer.Prepare patient rooms and complete prior authorizations.Review MRI reports and restock rooms and supply closets.Complete inventory management tasks.Triage phone calls for any physician or patient questions.Update patient records and electronic medical records (Athena).Cross-train in spine, pain management, and orthopedics.Prep days involve chart preparation, file updates for EMR, room preparation for other physicians, updating disability and FMLA forms, cleaning rooms, stocking supplies, and taking inventory.Essential Skills1+ year of medical assistant experience in a high-volume office.Experience in medical assisting and patient care.Proficiency with electronic medical records (preferably Athena).Additional Skills & QualificationsCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred but not required.Experience in orthopedics, podiatry, pain management, spine, or surgery is advantageous.Experience with bracing, cast removals, and suture removals is ideal.Work Environment

Work a full-time schedule with shifts as follows: Monday 8 AM - 5 PM, Tuesday 8 AM - 4 PM, Wednesday 8 AM - 5 PM, Thursday 8 AM - 2:30 PM, and Friday 7 AM - 4 PM. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the shift starts. Occasionally work on Saturdays, with adjustments made to ensure a 40-hour workweek (approximately six Saturdays per year). Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are office hours, while Tuesday and Thursday are prep days. You will primarily work with the same doctor and may be asked to float to a nearby office (1 mile away) if needed to meet the weekly 40-hour requirement. Expect to handle 30-40 patients on a full day, with appointments scheduled every 10 minutes.
