**Please note this clinic is open until 7 p.m. Mon-Fri and 9 a.m. tp 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Must have flexibility to work within the hours of operation.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties include but not limited to the following: check in patients, obtaining vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature) and medication reconciliation, patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic with supplies, navigating electronic health record system (EPIC), scheduling and following-up with appointments and assisting with medication fill and refill requests, checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures and consultations.  May also perform other procedures such as EKG, phlebotomy, lab tests and injections (once competency has been assessed).

The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the coordination and flow of patients throughout the patients visit to create an exceptional patient experience.Proactively check the provider’s schedule and review information within the patient record to ensure that all required information is available prior to their visit.Proactively obtains any missing information from the patient to ensure that medical records are accurate and up to date, which helps to ensure better care is being provided.Upon arrival, captures patient’s vital signs, past medical, social and family history, medication usage and preferred pharmacy information.Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements including HIPAA/OSHA compliance.

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or General Education EquivalencyBasic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information, plus.Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate to be received within 90 days, plus one of the following:Prior working experience in a medical office/clinic performing clinical MA duties.

Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.

Or a Certified MA from the National Health Career Association (NHA).Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.Or completed any MA education program, but has not received certification as of yet.Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.

Preferred Requirements for Certified Medical Assistant:

Current MA Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, AAMP.Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current Licensure without restrictions.Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate, within 90 days.

Position Overview:

The Medical Assistant III assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Areas of clinical practice include patients of all ages in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and some specialty areas such as Neurology. 

Skills and Abilities:

·Assist the physician with all tasks associated with patient care as requested, within the scope of practice and certification including:

Recording patient history,Measuring vital signs,Helping physicians with patient examinations,Helping with giving injections, medications or other therapies as permitted by state lawPrepare samples for laboratory testingUpdating electronic patient files.Interact with patients, patient family and caregivers in a professional and courteous manner.Assist other clinical personnel as needed and interact with the other healthcare providers to facilitate a smooth continuum of careAssists with coverage of Patient Access areas. 

      

Minimum Education & Training:

Applicant must meet one or more of the following requirements and have current certificate or license in that area:Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program with current CMA certification from AAMA, AMT or NCCT.Graduate of an approved practical nursing program with current Kentucky LPN Licensure.Graduate of an accredited RN program with current Kentucky RN Licensure.Currently certified through AAMA, AMT or NCCT.Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate.Computer skills preferred.Incumbents not meeting these specifications have been grandfathered based on qualifications in effect prior to the date on page one of this document.
