Medical Assistant
Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description This position is within a pediatric outpatient clinic connected to the hospital. The team is looking for someone eager to learn and grow within the organization. The role involves assisting providers, documenting patient information, and performing various tests and administrative tasks. Responsibilities + Assist providers by rooming patients, obtaining blood pressure, documenting signs/symptoms, taking weight and temperature, and completing medical history documentation (30% of the time). + Set up for and assist providers with miscellaneous tasks and tests, including urinalyses, strep/flu/pregnancy tests, and other tests as directed by the provider or dependent on the specialty practice (25% of the time). + Schedule tests, radiology exams, and appointments with specialists as requested, enter information into the EMR, perform prior authorizations, and notify the office referral specialist when insurance referral is required (10% of the time). + Assist provider with office exams, collect height, weight, BMI, and update immunization records (10% of the time). + Perform phone triage, including answering patient medical questions, providing test results, handling medication refills, and calling back patients; also manage faxes/calls/transmits prescription refills as directed (10% of the time). + Perform walk-in patient duties, including triage, blood pressures, urinalyses, medication sample requests, and collecting history and other information from patients (10% of the time). + Serve as a resource to visitors, providers, and staff by greeting everyone promptly and courteously, and communicating clearly while supporting the organization's mission and values (10% of the time). + Perform additional duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator, practice site provider, and/or the VP of Physician Practices (5% of the time). + Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions (5% of the time). Essential Skills + Active CMA (AAMA), RMA, or CCMA certification required. + Successful completion of and graduation from a recognized medical assistant training course (or equivalent experience). + High school diploma (HSD). + An upbeat, positive, outgoing attitude and willingness to 'jump in' when needed. + Ability to stand for long periods of time. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 2-3 years of experience working as a CMA. + Experience within family practice or pediatrics. + Experience with point-of-care (POC) testing. + Experience with Cerner or other EMR systems. Work Environment This role is based at JMH in Franklin within a temperature-controlled pediatric clinic. The team consists of two providers and one other MA, and they see approximately 130 patients daily. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, with walk-ins from 8am-8:50am, appointments from 9am-11:30am, an hour lunch break, and afternoon appointments from 1pm-4:30pm. There is easy access to parking, a friendly and supportive work culture, and occasional staff events such as food trucks and catered lunches. No weekend work or holidays are required, and minimal overtime is expected. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.22 - $25.00/hr.
