Job Description
The role is a mixture of clinical duties and scheduling responsibilities. The MA will be involved in triaging incoming patients, obtaining vital signs, reconciling medication and allergy lists, and preparing patients for their visits.
ResponsibilitiesSchedule patient appointments as necessary.Call patients from reception area and prepare them for examination by providing gowns.Take vital signs, draw blood, and give injections as requested.Reconcile allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patients.Perform HCG, urinalysis, rapid strep tests, cultures, process in-house lab results, and outbound tests.Perform EKGs, PFTs, nebulizer treatments, apply oxygen as needed, assist with pap exams, perform ear lavages, and administer immunizations and other injections as ordered.Chaperon when appropriate and assist during treadmills, colposcopies, and minor surgeries.Maintain clean, well-equipped examination rooms and sterilize instruments.Stock examination rooms, triage area, and work station with medical supplies for the designated team.Perform phone triage, complete team tasks, paperwork, and faxes.Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information and obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visits.Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures, and quality improvement activities.Follow protocols related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT, and IT Policy.Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to MA certification.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsHigh school diplomaSuccessful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA)Completion of BLS class with re-certification every 2 yearsAdditional Skills & QualificationsSurgery experience preferred, specifically around scheduling, dermatology, and plastic surgeryWork Environment
The role is within the surgery department. Standard office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with a 30-minute lunch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to body fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva, with the potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Work is primarily indoors, but may require being in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.50 - $25.50/hr.
