Job Description

This clinical role is vital in supporting the work of nurse coordinators, physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers within the Knight Cancer Institute. The Medical Assistant independently performs a variety of clinical, administrative, and technical functions. The Care Coordinator ensures seamless care across providers and the care continuum by bridging gaps between facilities, specialists, labs, community resources, and primary care. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing all non-nurse patient case-loads, providing clinical support with order entry, and coordinating appointments for pre and post-transplant procedures for a specialized patient population. The incumbent will review patient records with providers to coordinate patient needs during clinic visits and throughout cancer treatment episodes. This role requires independent judgment in implementing directions from nurse coordinators and physicians while maintaining good working relationships with internal institutional departments.

ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and manage the non-nurse aspects of the patient's clinical care process.Review the plan of care to ensure it is executed correctly.Provide support with order entry, AVS preparation, medication refills, and non-nursing support and education to patients and families.Place lab and scheduling orders and follow up with patients to communicate appointment times.Monitor the Epic in-basket for messages from patients, providers, and RNC, handling messages within certification scope.Manage refill requests appropriately.Provide education and document patients' glucose meter use and pulse reading.Perform authorizations and refill requests for Celgene products.Administer post-transplant immunizations when needed.Arrange satellite clinics and ensure patient results and orders are completed, monitored, and updated in EPIC.Attend weekly huddles with providers and RNC to develop and review the plan of care.Order and schedule ancillary services and procedures, communicating to patients.Ensure patients follow through with outside referrals to other specialties, labs, and diagnostic imaging.Coordinate hospital admission and cell collection with inpatient and ancillary services for bone marrow transplant patients and donors.Provide program information and education to patients, families, and referring physician office staff.Participate in multidisciplinary patient conferences, providing patient status information to support decision-making.Act as a communication link between physicians, referring physician offices, the inpatient team, and the Ambulatory Oncology clinic.Respond to voice mail and email messages with no more than a two-day turnaround time.Attend MD/department team meetings as appropriate.Triage and respond to patient questions in MyChart, phone calls, emails, and faxes regarding scheduling or care issues within scope or escalate to RNC.Essential SkillsBLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)National MA certification (CMA, AAMA, NCCT, RMA, AMT, CCMA, NHA, NCMA)1+ year(s) of MA experienceExperience with patient vitals, EKG, and EpicProven reliability and attendanceAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in oncology, prescription refills, rooming patients, patient care, blood pressure, EKG, electronic medical records, blood draw, patient intake, lab testing, point-of-care testingWork Environment

The position is located at OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center, Primary Care - South Hillsboro (Outpatient Center) with a schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (40 hours/week). The assignment length is 8 weeks, with a high likelihood of being extended. Employees will accrue 1 hour of PTO for every 50 hours worked, with the ability to use PTO after working 400 hours. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
